About Us

Hey, I'm Mark and my business is called Magnolia Oaks Woodshop.

I love woodworking and building fun, unique, and useful products with wood. Always have.

I grew up on a farm in South Mississippi and have always loved being outside and making things.

My Dad was a Professor at our local University and a building designer, drawing house plans for families in our area.

In the summers, he would manage the construction for 2-3 homes, and as one of two sons, I was always "offered" misc. jobs to help out on the jobsites.

As a result, I spent much of my youth on construction sites and being around carpenters, plumbers, brick layers, electricians, you name it...

For some reason, building useful things with wood always appealed to me. Not sure why, but it did.

Some of my fondest childhood memories involve my Dad and I going to the local Honda place and asking if we could have their used pallets, so I could have some wood to build things with.

We'd (I mean I'd) load them up in the back of my Dad's 1984 Brown Datsun King Kab truck and take them to the house.

For Christmas every year, I'd get 1 big box of nails (and a case of baseballs b/c I was also REALLY into baseball growing up). That box of nails would have to last me till next year.

You'd think my Dad, being in the field he was in, would have had some decent tools that I could use in my woodworking pursuits.

But you would be wrong.

He had an old Delta table saw, that I never remember working. An old drill press that I never remember working either. And a couple crappy hammers and hand tools.

It definitely didn't stop me from building stuff.

In the summers, I'd load up my pallets, nails, and hammer on my 4 wheeler and drive out into "Mathisville", which was my made-up name for the area back in the woods where I would build little structures with the pallets.

A hotel, a restaurant, a general store, a coffee house... Mathisville had it all.

Bad thing was, if I wanted a new "building", I'd need to tear down an existing building and remove all the nails (since I had to re-use them).

Now, I'm not sure if my buildings were actually "up to code"... Nah... I'm sure they were...

Anyway, I enjoyed every minute of building fun stuff and I loved to show anyone who was interested, what I'd built back in the woods behind our case.

Fast forward a few years, I finished college, finished graduate school, worked in the corporate world, got married, had 3 sons, and life was very busy... and very happy.

I hadn't really built anything in years because I didn't have a space or the time to do it.

Fortunately, we finally moved into a new house with a seperate one car garage that I was able to convert into my woodshop and start building again.

Magnolia Oaks Woodshop was started as a business to share my woodworking projects with the local community and its continued to grow with orders being shipped all over the U.S.

I appreciate that you're checking out our products and I hope to be able to help you and your family with a product that will bring you many years of enjoyment..
